Chinese people are most concerned about issues that relate to personal and family security, according to a poll by Shanghai Jiaotong University that was made public on Wednesday.The poll collected responses via telephone interviews with 1,080 citizens aged between 15 to 84 in 36 cities.The results showed that over 70 percent of the respondents care about security issues such as the public security situation, environmental pollution and territorial security. More than half of the respondents cared about livelihood issues such as food security, medical treatment, education and commodity prices and economic and political reform issue.Fewer than 4 percent of those polled care about political policies like family planning and household registry reform.According to the results, elderly people pay more attention to news concerning heated public issues than younger ones. It also found that people who have a higher education background are more interested in such issues. Retired people were the most fascinated about these issues and unemployed people cared the least. The higher one's income is, the less he or she will care about these issues.With the popularization of new media, the Internet buzzwords have spread faster and influence a wider range of people. Words and phrases like smog, family planning, GM food, Prism [scandal], Bit-coin, Chinese grannies, President [Xi Jinping]'s meal and [first lady Peng] Liyuan Style have become the latest batch of Internet buzzwords, according to the survey.
