China Awards scholarship to Ethiopian post graduate students

China on Friday awarded about 46 Ethiopian post graduate students scholarship that enables the students to pursue studies in masters and PhD programs in China.The award ceremony of the 2014 Chinese Government Scholarship to Ethiopian students has taken place at the residence of the Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia.Stating that China and Ethiopia enjoy profound traditional friendship, Xie Xiaoyan, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia noted that his country attaches great importance to the cooperation with Ethiopia in human resource development.The Ambassador stated that the exchange and cooperation in education is an important component of the comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two countries.The Ambassador also recalled that China announced last year that it would double the scholarship for Ethiopia's students from 40 to 80, which the Ambassador said enables more Ethiopian young people to have chances to study China.Xie revealed that China would provide about 100 Confucius institute scholarship for Ethiopian students next year.He said China would continue to further strengthen its cooperation with Ethiopia to take the long-standing relations between the two countries to higher level."China will continue to further foster the bilateral cooperation in the education and all other sectors with Ethiopia," said the Ambassador.The Ambassador expressed belief that the students, after returning home, would serve their people with the knowledge and experience gained through the scholarship and also promote the people-to-people relations between Ethiopia and China.Speaking on the occasion, Kaba Urgessa, Ethiopian State Minister of Education, noted that the long-standing relation between Ethiopia and China is being manifested in different forms of cooperation and support.China has been supporting Ethiopia's efforts in the human resources development program by providing long and short-term training opportunities for the last several years, said the State Minster.Kaba said China's support to his country in training has big contribution to capacity building programs of Ethiopia."This support is witnessed this year also that the People's Republic of China has provided us 46 post graduates as well as more than 300 short-term training opportunities. The government of Ethiopia is so grateful for the support given to us," he said.Some of the 2014 Chinese Government scholarship awardees told Xinhua that they are very happy about the scholarships they have been awarded.Habtamu Zegeye is from Assossa University and he will be flying to China for his study at PhD program in applied mathematics.He said he would work hard in pursuing his study that after completion to contribute share to the development of his country with knowledge and skills he would gain in China.
