Steve London, chief operating officer of Bekum America Corp., received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Ferris State University at a ceremony May 7. Since graduating from the university in Big Rapids, Mich., London has worked for nearly 30 years at Bekum, the blow molding machinery company in Williamston, Mich. During his career, London continued his education, earning at MBA in manufacturing and marketing at the University of Michigan in Flint. He continues to be active at Ferris State, supporting the College of Engineering Technology. He has served as a member of the technical advisory staff for the engineering program, and led the placement of a continuous extrusion blow molding machine at the school’s National Elastomer Center. Ten percent of Bekum America’s employees are Ferris State graduates — representing 108 years of experience at the machinery maker, according to Gary Carr, Bekum America’s director of sales, who also is a Ferris alum. “In today’s era of job-hopping, we are very proud of our Ferris grads and the employee retention we have enjoyed,” Carr said.
