Conair says EarthSmart cooling towers save water and energy |
Related to this storyTopicsProduct News Conair Group has rolled out EarthSmart adiabatic cooling towers, which the company says reduces water and energy consumption, and prevent contamination of process fluid. The cooling tower maintains stable fluid temperatures even in hot water, Conair said. The fluid circulates in a closed loop through tubing in the tower. Adiabatic, wetted panels are mounted in front the cooling tower coil, through which process water flows. As ambient air passes through the panels, water evaporates, reducing the temperature of the flowing air so that it cools the process fluid. During cold outside temperatures, the Conair cooling towers can be operated without the adiabatic process, instead relying on ambient air to cool the coils. By using the adiabatic mode only when necessary during periods when outdoor temperatures are high, the unit reduces water consumption to just a fraction of what conventional cooling towers use, according to Conair. The panels slide out easily for cleaning with no special tools required. Individual fans can be shut down for service as other fans continue to operate. EarthSmart tower coils are supported independently of the frame, allowing for natural expansion and contraction. “For plastics processors with concerns about their water supply and process water purity, adiabatic-cooling systems succeed where conventional tower systems fall short,” said Tim Miller, product manager.
