"Under normal circumstances it isn't harmful, but we advise not eating it too often."A local resident, surnamed Jin, recently bought a package of pasta imported from Italy at a shopping mall in Changning district. However, she later noticed a host of black weevils inside the package just as she was about to open it. When she contacted the mall, staff promised to refund her purchase and provide compensation for her trouble. In response to this matter, professor Liu Shaowei from East China University of Science and Technology explained to the Shanghai Morning Post that pasta does not undergo high-temperature processing, meaning that larvae that get mixed into pasta can hatch into insects. These pests will eat part of the pasta's nutrition; although if properly cleaned, the pasta is still safe for human consumption.
