A sperm bank at the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University will start providing sperm to the public by the end of this month, giving infertile couples in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region more choices, Modern Life Daily reported. The sperm bank, established in June 2013, is the 18th authorized sperm bank in the country. Wang Zhiqiang, deputy chief of the sperm bank, said only about 100 people came to the bank to donate sperm, 70 percent of whom are college students. "Only 18 percent of the donated sperm meets the qualifications of the sperm bank, and that is the reason we did not start providing sperm to the public until this month," he said. There are a series of restrictions on sperm donors, with the inspection process taking about 10 months. Each donor receives a subsidy of 3,000 yuan ($480) to 4,000 yuan to cover transportation fees and other possible financial losses.
