Material handling system supplier L-R Systems Inc. is expanding its reach by opening an East Coast regional office in Toms River, N.J.

Rick Pasteris, sales manager of L-R Systems, said the Romeoville, Ill.-based company has had sales representatives who have served the region before, but an increase in business, especially in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, created the need for a stronger local presence.

The office will be managed by industry veteran Brian Sampson, who has more than 30 years of experience in the plastics industry providing material handling systems.

Pasteris said Sampson will manage sales, quote prices, oversee operations, select installation crews and in general, provide more services to the region.

L-R Systems was started in 1980 in the Chicago area. It is currently located in a 31,000 square foot facility in Romeoville, which opened in 2011. The company designs, manufactures and installs material handling and turnkey systems for plastic companies. It also supplies bulk handling systems for the food, plastics, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

Pasteris said that the company works with all types of molders, including injection molders, blow molders and extruders. L-R does a lot of business with companies needing help with powder handling.

L-R has been growing since it was purchased in 2008 by Scott Prater of Prater Industries Inc., a particle processing company in Bolingbrook, Ill., that does business as Prater-Sterling. Since then, L-R has added personnel in sales, marketing and engineering along with more field crews for installation. The most recent addition was an electrical engineer.
