Injection molder Klein Plastics will move from Rockford, Mich., to Mansfield, Texas, where its parent company, Klein Tools Inc., is expanding its manufacturing headquarters.

Klein officials said in an email that Klein Plastics will make the move in the second quarter of 2015. Klein Plastics is a proprietary molder for other Klein businesses, and it also does custom molding. Company officials would not disclose whether the custom molding side of the business will continue after the move.

“By centralizing facilities at our manufacturing headquarters, Klein can develop business strategies that will produce operational and system efficiencies,” noted Russell Winnie, Klein’s executive director of loss prevention, in a Jan. 10 news release.

Klein Tools, based in Lincolnshire, Ill., is a major hand-tool producer. The Mansfield expansion also will accommodate relocation of Klein’s screw driver and nut driver production from Lincolnshire to the Texas site. Lincolnshire will remain corporate headquarters. Klein Tools runs several other manufacturing plants and offices in the United States.

“For over 157 years, Klein has been committed to manufacturing the majority of our products in the USA,” stated Klein Tools President Thomas R. Klein in a news release. “By creating a world-class manufacturing campus in Mansfield, Texas, Klein can continue its tradition of utilizing high-quality materials, superior craftsmanship and advanced technology to product premium tools.”

Ninety-six Klein Plastics employees in Rockford will be affected by the move. Klein officials did not disclose the size of the Rockford plant or equipment details.
