PVC and concrete panels going to build 3,000 kindergartens in Brazil

Related to this story TopicsPublic Policy, South America, Construction Austria-based GHS Global Housing Solutions has formed a subsidiary in Brazil after winning a bid to build up to 3,000 kindergartens in Brazil using PVC and concrete panels. The  will accommodate more than 400,000 children in 14 federal states. Global Housing International do Brasil Ltda. Will be located in Araquiri, Brazil, and will build a production plant in the central-west region of the country to make the extruded PVC and concrete panels for the new kindergartens. “There is enormous potential for our products in Brazil,” said Hannes Stabla, general manager of GHS Brazil. GHS, based in Ried im Traunkreis, Austria, already is supplying materials for the schools. The first one opened in December. The PVC concrete process from GHS shortens the average construction time from around 30 months to as little as three months. Because of this, more kindergartens will be built in Brazil in 2014 than in the last eight years combined, the company said. Despite the short construction period, the buildings are designed for a log service life and are claimed to be earthquake and hurricane resistant. GHS is handling the engineering, production and installation of the profile production plants, and is also training the local workforce. Each kindergarten complex covers up to 1,300 square meters and offers classes for 120 to 140 children and will employ 30 to 50 staff members.
