Audi Pushing Car Design Once Again

In 2010 Audi showed off the e-tron concept at numerous car shows, demonstrating Audi?s abilities to produce a good looking, sporty electric car. The e-tron was inspired by the need for alternative fuel vehicles, now Audi Bolton has created a car for pure urban use. Sketches of the Audi urban concept were unveiled today; it is a little more farfetched than the e-tron concept.

Going against tradition, the Audi Urban is a 1+1 seater, it is an ultra light car designed for the urban roads and high congestion areas. The Urban concept combines race car and roadster characteristics to create a fun urban car.

Unlike the e-tron concept, which was heavily based on other Audi models such as the R8 and the TT, the Urban concept is not based on any other Audi model. It will be created using lightweight construction, increasing efficiency and practicality.

The sketches released by Audi show an exterior design which has freestanding 21 inch wheels and surrounding protective plates which feature 'blinking' LED light strips. The body design is sleek and dynamic like a race car or roadster.

The interior is very unconventional, there is staggered seating for two people. The seats are set deep into the floor of the car, creating a low sporty driving position. All the materials and components used on the interior are made up of ultra light materials. Entry to the cabin is via the tailgate, and the roof can be manoeuvred and slides to the rear to open.

According to Audi the Audi Urban concept is designed to be powered by two e-tron electric motors and a lithium ion battery for powerful acceleration.
