At last the fastest, hottest Audi A3 is available in the UK. The Audi RS3 Sportback was rumoured by Audi back in 2010, it has finally been launched in the UK albeit as an exclusive low volume model. Only 500 examples of the car are being produced in right-hand-drive for UK customers. The RS3 is produced in Gyor, Hungary, and claims to be the most powerful Audi of its size, with a turbocharged 2.5 litre, five-cylinder TFSI engine - the same engine as in an Audi TT RS. Unlike a used Audi A3 the RS3 comes with a seven-speed S-tronic automatic gearbox with paddle shift, and quattro permanent four-wheel-drive. From the outside it is quite difficult to tell a part the RS3 from a normal A3 except a few subtle enhancements to the design. Under the skin though there have been many changes made; it has new front wings made of lightweight carbon fibre-reinforced polymer, which save 1.8 kg compared with standard steel wings on an A3. The front bumper is deeper with twin air intakes. Larger, 19-inch alloys are fitted as standard to better fill the wheel arches providing a beefier stance. There are discreet sill extensions, a rear roof spoiler and a black front diffuser to add the finishing touches. The performance figures on the RS3 are quite amazing; this 5 door hot hatch can do 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds. The RS3's five-cylinder engine is boosted by a turbocharger that generates up to 1.2 bar of boost pressure, delivers up to 335 bhp at between 5,400 and 6,500 revs. It has an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.
