Plug In Hybrid Volvo XC60 Is On The Cards

Swedish car maker Volvo has been producing the XC60 since 2008; it is a compact crossover that competes with the BMW X3 and Audi Q5. The XC60 is part of Volvo?s XC range of models which currently also has the bigger XC90. Volvo has joined the revolutionary SUV trend and designed this premium model to capture a new type of audience which differ from its traditional target market. In 2009 the XC60 was Volvo?s best selling model.

For the UK market the XC60 comes with a choice of diesel engines and one petrol unit. The petrol engine is a 3.2 litre that has an impressive 300 bhp and is light enough to give hot hatches a good run for their money. Three diesel engines are on offer, a 2.0 litre with 161 bhp, a 2.4 litre with 161 bhp and another 2.4 litre with 202 bhp. If I had to choose an engine it would be the large diesel unit, the torque and grunt of the diesel engine will provide a good compromise between power and fuel economy.

Volvo will be presenting the XC60 Plug-in concept at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The concept model will be on show to demonstrate Volvo?s commitment to new green technology. The hybrid model will be powered by a four cylinder 280 hp petrol engine and a 70 hp electric motor which allows the XC60 to sprint from 0-62 mph in 6.1 seconds, yet is capable of a range of 28 miles purely under the power of the electric motor.

If you drive a used Volvo in London then the Hybrid model will be welcomed news for you. Town and city driving are best suited for electric and hybrid electric cars. With an all electric range of 28 miles city drivers can do most of their driving on electric power alone!
