Electric vehicles are all the rage at the moment and all manufacturers seem to be getting on board. Ford are the latest manufacturer to announce details on their electric vehicle.

This week they have announced plans to start producing an electric Focus model. They have stated that the car will seat five and will be able to average more than 100 miles per gallon on the fuel efficiency scale.

However, there are rumours that this model will set you back around 40 thousand dollars which is substantially higher than the regular focus model.

Ford will launch the Focus electric in America first with New York and California being mentioned as two of the first locations to receive the model. Ford have announced that the model will be rolled out in 2012, so we don?t have too long to wait.

It seems as though the manufacturer is putting a lot of effort into fuel efficiency, in fact they are said to be basing their major selling point on fuel efficiency. They have stated that in 2012 one third of their model lineup will average 40 miles per gallon.

The Focus electric is set to be the first vehicle to charge with 240-volt outlets which will cut the overall charge time in half when compared to the likes of the Nissan Leaf ? which will be one of its main competitors.

As it stands the Focus electric is set to be significantly more expensive that similar electric vehicles which are currently on the market so time will tell how successful this model will become.
