Scotland?s Best Estate Car Award

The new Hyundai i40 was launched this year by the Korean car maker; it has been designed specifically for the European market. The i40 is sold as a large family car available initially as an estate car followed soon by a saloon variant. Hyundai has applied the new ?Fluidic Sculpture? to the i40 too, to keep it in line with the company?s current design ethos.

The i40 is currently available with three engine choices; 2 petrol units and a diesel. The petrol variants are a 1.6 litre with 140 bhp and a 2.0 litre with 175 bhp. The diesel engine is a 1.7 litre with the choice of either 114 or 134 bhp. There is also a very fuel efficient ?BlueDrive? model which has Start-Stop technology and low resistance tyres.

To attract customers the i40 comes as standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth connectivity with voice recognition, steering wheel-mounted controls, electric windows and an electric parking brake with automatic hold functionality. The next trim up includes sat-nav, rear-view camera, parking sensors and cruise and climate controls. The top of the range models come with the addition of leather seats, panoramic sunroof and keyless entry. Lane-departure warning, heated leather-trimmed steering wheel and ventilated front seats are also included.

At the 2011 Scottish Car of the Year awards, the new Hyundai i10 has been voted Scotland?s ?Best Estate Car?. It is a much coveted award and the i40 faced fierce competition from the Peugeot 508 SW, the Astra Sports Tourer and the BMW 5 Series Touring.

Hyundai UK's managing director, Tony Whitehorn, said: "We are absolutely delighted that the i40 Tourer has won the award for ?Best Estate Car? of the Year. This is our first award for a vehicle which represents yet another remarkable step change for Hyundai ? offering elegant design, practicality, economy and exceptional value for money.
