Dr. Schneider Kunststoffwerke GmbH, a German supplier of plastic interior auto parts, has opened a $29 million manufacturing plant in Russell Springs, Ky.

Dr. Schneider, headquartered in Kronach, Germany, produces plastic vent and trim systems for automakers around the world. The 64,000-square-foot Russell Springs facility, formerly occupied by Hitachi Cable, will produce parts for companies including Ford, BMW, Mercedes and Audi, the company said.

“At the end of an intensive selection process where we checked 69 locations, we decided to choose Russell Springs,” said Wilhelm Wirth, a member of the Dr. Schneider board of directors, in a statement. “The decisive factors included the quality and expandability of the facility and the competitive location costs. The professional cooperation with the local and state business development departments confirmed our decision as well.”

It will become the company’s second location in the U.S. It also has a production site in Howell, Mich.

The plant will create 155 jobs, according to a news release from the office of Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear.

The company has been approved for performance-based tax incentives of up to $4 million.
